The president of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer has apologised to Jewish organisations in the country for omitting aspects of Swiss complicity in the Shoah during his remarks on Holocaust Remembrance day earlier this year.
What counts is not just what one says, but also what one does not say,” Maurer told the annual convention of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities in St. Gallen.
Maurer’s comments were applauded by delegates who were also marking the 150th anniversary of the St. Gallen community.
In a statement published Thursday by the Jewish Federation and EJC affiliate, its president Herbert Winter thanked Maurer for the “clarity of his remarks”.
